Green Homes - What Are The Benefits?

by Bruce Kellby

Specific organizations exist to help companies realize the benefits of efficient office buildings. It is important for companies to see the benefits of energy efficient office buildings and work spaces. This effort will not only help the environment but will also save the company money.

As per the website of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), "it is a nonprofit association which provides advances to buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places top live and work." It has a grading system for new buildings known as the "Green Building Rating System" and another known as "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System", which grades the sustainable operation of exiting buildings.

LEED, an environmental performance benchmark, is used by developers to compare buildings to one another. It is awarded to buildings that have been planned, developed and built to high-performance, environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Many buildings have been rated environmentally friendly.

There are over five thousand companies that are certified by USGBC. These companies and organizations, which are members of the council, hold over two hundred million square feet of LEED certified building space. These companies can always show off their environmental awareness and they will save lots of money because they operate in energy efficient buildings.

Green homes are designed so that they reduce the negative impact of the home on the environment and improve the health of those who live there. Smart design, maintenance elements, construction, and technology are all great at accomplishing this. It doesn't matter where you live or what your living situation may be, living a greener life can go as far as your imagination.

When you decide you want to make your home green, you are henceforth making a commitment to everyone around you. This is also a chance to learn. There are all kinds of technologies and scientific discoveries that are ever emerging. When you want a green home, it is best to remain educated on the topic and anything new that is coming out.

Less water, energy and natural resources are used in a green home where there is less of waste. It is healthier for those people who live in a green home as compared to those living in a standard home. While constructing a home it can be made green or can be converted green later on. The green process can be done at one time or can be made as a continuing process. The home can be made green from front to back, top to bottom, inside and outside and an energy efficient kitchen. A person can be guided as there are several green developers.

Living "green" is more than just about conscience, making our homes green makes them healthier, energy efficient, and attractive. Likewise, more governmental agencies as well as corporations are providing many incentives for choosing green, eco-friendly living such as tax breaks and credits. There are many hidden benefits toward choosing "Green."

LEED certification is awarded to buildings that have carefully planned, developed, and designed a building as environmentally as possible. At the same time, they are profitable and healthy places to live or work. LEED Charlotte rates many buildings. This benchmark is used by many a would-be "green developer" to compare their building's environmental design to others of the same type. Green homes incorporate smart design, technology, construction and maintenance elements to significantly reduce the negative impact of the home on the environment and improve the health of residents. No matter what your location or living situation, the opportunities for living a greener life at home are unlimited.
